(from May 30, 2024): Good news! We've just heard from our lawyer, Nicolas Rouleau, that the Appeal Court for Ontario has announced a tentative date for hearing our appeal in the Charter Challenge - it's currently booked for this fall, on Tuesday, November 5th in Toronto.
We've also recently "perfected" our appeal (meaning that we submitted our factum, or written argument, which lays out the basis for our appeal) - check it out here! Over the coming weeks, we'll briefly outline to you the arguments that we made in our factum and plan to argue in person in November.
And we also expect the court shortly to approve a list of "intervenors" (groups that are making "friend of the court" arguments related to our case). At this point, we know that there are 13 applications to intervene, which is great news for us as it demonstrates significant and growing interest in the Challenge (there were 4 in our first hearing). We'll let you know more once the court decides who they want to hear from.
